Snake are Definitely Happening Faster

ree
Peppercake has grown a lot since I first got her. She barely fits in my hand anymore.

So I made a blog post about a month or so back regarding my thoughts on getting into snake breeding. I'm not going to lie, I've been pretty obsessed with my hognoses. I received the tricolor pair and they are gorgeous. Everyone is looking healthy. At that time, we had plans for just the four snakes. Then we decided to go all in and also some unique opportunities came up.

Innitially our plan was to breed the tricolors next year when they were big enough, and possibly Tamale and Peppercake next year if Peppercake was big enough. However, I don't think Peppercake will be big enough to safely have babies until 2023. I don't want to powerfeed any of the snakes, since that can be bad for their health and life span. In fact, we had resigned ourselevs to just the tricolors for next year, which honestly will likely make lots of babies considering that they are known to clutch multiple times in a year. But then we ran into someone getting out of the hobby.

They were getting rid of their entire collection save for 2-3 pets snakes. They had a set of 6 hognoses that they were selling as a group, all part of a snow morph breeding project. Coincidentally, snows were one of the things we wanted to achieve in the future, so this piqued our interest. Not only that, among the snakes was a 2017 proven female well over 300 g, and a 2017 axanthic girl that is big enough to breed, and a 2019 het snow female that will likely be ready for 2022. This was a chance to jump start our entire hognose operation by magnitudes. Yes, it cost a pretty penny, but considering they all were healthy, adorable, and would prevent us from having a slow year in 2022, I figured it was worth the investment. Also, how could I say no to those cute little snoots?

However, right before we ran into that opportunity, we had also decided to pick up a second female to pair up with Tamale once she was big enough, and that's where Cheesenips comes in, who was already revealed on Instagram. We decided on a second extreme red albino conda, just like Tamale, but this time a female. This would lead to some gorgeous extreme red albino super condas in the future! I'm a huge fan of the extreme red line trait and really hope to incorporate that into other morphs besides albinos. Also, despite having the same genetics traits as Tamale, Cheesenips looks really different from him.

Ok, yes, we may have gone a little snake-crazy, but I have been considering not just how cute the are, but also their care needs, including enclosures, food, and all other care in between. I have enclosures ready to go for babies as well as an incubator. We are taking this on as not just a hobby, but also a business. I love reptiles and working with them, and I realized this was an opportunity to do that. But nowhere along the way do we want them to be just assets, they are our babies. We want to be able to give individual care to each snake, provide updates on social media, and for every baby, we plan to have detailed care sheets and information so that new owners can know about their snake's personality. We will be going the extra mile to provide these snakes with the love and care they deserve. We love every single one of our snakes and look forward to having them for a long time as they are now family.

Next time, I will do a special introduction to every single one of the snakes, for a total of 11 snakes. We will have had them enough time that they'll have names and have learned about their personality. For now, just enjoy some pictures of the new snakes.
